General social, economic, and political make-up (400 words)
The existence and threat of terrorism in that nation
Socio-economic difficulties in that nation aka the plight of poor people (Due Jan 3)
Each entry will be 500 words long (minimum -- more quality work is always better), which will equal a 10 page paper by the end of the course. This is your major research assignment and will require you to gather information, examine it thoroughly, and offer an authoritative account of each issue. You will also be required to create a map (using Google Maps) that illustrates each entry.
Basic Internet Resources for your nation research: (Tthe bibliography can be helpful only for initial ideas. Wikipedia and other non-journalistic or non-academic sources should not make up the bulk of your research and you should not cite them.)
Journalistic Sources: Like any other text, always contains an argument. It is not completely objective, it is a specific person’s report. However, it is a great place to find provocative viewpoints, good research, and interesting differences across various newspapers and magazine. Some of my favorites are:
Better sources are in the library. Academic books and journals undergo serious scrutiny by both other scholars/researchers and the publishing house. This very structure of oversight is what guarantees the trustworthiness of the information contained therein.
